The icing on the cake?

Despite the strong setback of JetBlue because of the harsh dream crushed by the Spirit board regarding the takeover bid, American is standing tall with its partner.

The sole purpose of NEA was to unlock the opportunities for mutual growth. This added more flying with both the airlines and more profit. So far, both the carriers have added several international routes to their high-profile access and a few domestic routes to go with it.

The new reciprocal frequent flyer benefits are also a part of the pact. This way, they have been at the upper hand up until now!’

Things aren’t all goodie-goods for the NEA;

As we said, it’s not all good news for NEA. The merger came under scrutiny by the Biden administration, culminating in a Justice Department lawsuit in mid-September 2021 alleging the deal was anticompetitive.

While we’re still awaiting the outcome of the lawsuit, both carriers are continuing to expand their networks.

The addition of new routes comes at an interesting time for American Airlines. On the one hand, JetBlue’s recently announced acquisition of Spirit Airlines appears to put NEA at risk from regulators.

JetBlue has been defending the NEA and the proposed Spirit acquisition, saying it believes regulators will allow the airline to proceed.

Alongside, the Spirit board cast doubts on the reasoning from JetBlue. Even when JetBlue said it is willing to drop the NEA. However, American airlines remained silent on the future of the NEA.

NEA is budding!

A spokesperson explained that the expansion is part of the airline’s partnership with JetBlue, which was announced in July 2020.

The program has helped both airlines strengthen their networks outside Boston and New York with hundreds of codeshares, U.S. passengers have more domestic options through JetBlue, and JetBlue customers can book through American for international travel purposes.

In November, the alliance promised to deliver lie-flat seats on all transcontinental routes to attract business travelers, including JetBlue’s Mint products and American’s Flagship First. In addition, this year, the couple has strategically scheduled flights from New York and Boston to give travelers more choice.

That includes making JetBlue the sole carrier between Boston and LaGuardia and rescheduling high-frequency flights from Boston to Washington, D.C., according to American. In short, the American-JetBlue NEA tie-up is taking baby steps to success. You can thereby see in their new routes announcements.
